A Conflict in Interest Essay - 633 Words

A Conflict in Interest The year 1910 marked the beginning of reform within the Mexican political order. Proposals such as Francisco Madero’s Plan of San Luis Potosi and The Plan de Ayala by Emiliano Zapata denounced the rigid control of dictator Porfirio Diaz, stating that the existing government offered no concessions to the Mexican people. In an effort to overthrow Diaz, Madero’s plan for revolution declared the current government nonexistent beginning at six o’clock on the evening of November 20, 1910. Emiliano Zapata, however, developed a plan resulting from his own lost faith in Madero’s goals and unfulfilled promises. On November 25, 1910, Zapata offered his own proposal to â€Å"continue the revolution begun by (Madero)† until†¦show more content†¦Emiliano Zapata, however, made no effort in his proposal to designate a position of power to himself or anyone else, stating that representatives will designate an interim President once the revolution is ac hieved. Through these statements, Madero seemed anxious to take control of the government, while Zapata focused on serving the needs and rights of all the Mexican people. In maintaining an illusion of democracy, Madero stated in his Plan that the new government would collect loans (forced and voluntary) to pay the debt caused by the revolution, and that these loans would be carefully documented and repaid. Just as Diaz had done in his dictatorship, Madero took from the poor in order to pay for the actions of an elite group, all while upholding the image that he was carrying out his plan with the Mexican people in mind. His Plan stated, â€Å"The most severe penalties will be applied to the soldiers who sack a town or who kill defenseless prisoners.† This statement was one of few that demonstrate concern for the â€Å"defenseless† peasants. Madero addressed the taking of the indigenous peoples’ land by declaring that the land shall be returned to its for mer owners, and if this is not possible, they will receive indemnity from those who stole theirShow MoreRelatedConflict of Interest in Research2203 Words   |  9 PagesConflict of interests in research Everyone must deal with conflict of interest. John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men - 1312 Words

Death is inevitable to every person. However, death arrives to people at different stages of their lives. People may bring death upon themselves because of their actions, or an animal may be killed of its uselessness. In S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders, there are three major deaths occurring in the novel: Bob, Johnny, and Dally. Similarly, in John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men, there are also three major deaths of Candy’s dog, Curley’s wife, and Lennie. The Outsiders is a story depicting the life of Ponyboy Curtis, who is struggling to find his place in the world while battling the rival gang, the Socs. Of Mice and Men is a story of two migrant workers, George and Lennie, who are bound together and share the dream of one day owning their own†¦show more content†¦11 Outsiders) As Ponyboy is being drowned by a group of Socs, Johnny takes immediate action and proceeds to stabbing and killing the leader. â€Å"I had to. They were drowning you, Pony. They might have killed you. And they had a blade...they were gonna beat me up†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (pg. 57 Outsiders) Johnny and Ponyboy flee from town after Johnny commits murder, and Johnny eventually dies because of events happening after the incident. Similarly, Lennie, a mentally disabled character from Of Mice and Men, holds onto his dream of owning and being able to tend his rabbits. When Curley’s wife begins to scream after Lennie pulls on her hair too tightly, Lennie begins to shake her, ultimately breaking her neck. Lennie didn’t mean any harm, he was paranoid that Curley’s wife was trying to get him in trouble, causing him to never be able to tend his rabbits. Consequently, Lennie gets killed by his best friend George while imagining his future farm happily, so he wouldn’t die cruelly at the hands of Curley. Johnny’s reason for murder was more justifiable than Lennie’s; Ponyboy was in eminent danger whereas Lennie wasn’t. However, they both killed someone who they thought would try to make their lives worse. Bob was the leader of the Socs and was thought to spend all his free time beating up Greasers. George had warned Lennie about Curley’s wife, saying that all she does is cause trouble. Both of their deaths represent innocence, even though they both committed murder. Johnny is the

Total Quality Management Of Domino’s Samples †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Total Quality Management Of Dominos. Answer: Introduction Dominos Pizza is a large fast food chain network and it has various outlets in Australian states also. They are popular across the globe for serving and delivering the pizza to its customers. The Dominos company is working on the franchise basis and they have the maximum number of franchise stores across the globe. In Australia only, they have reached to the number of 2000 stores. They have adopted the technique of providing adequate quality goods and services in order to develop goodwill in the fast food industry and along with this, they have been continuously working on improving the quality services and the products to satisfy the customer' requirements and to meet the customers' expectations. Being the manager of the organization, it was analyzed that certain issues are being faced by the organization which is resulting in the declining performance of the organization. In order to avoid these issues, I suggested the upper-level management to adopt certain quality improvement techniques for increasing the efficiency of the organization as well as to match up with the customers' expectations. Survey Plan-do-act-check Under this report, analysis of the issues faced by the organization will be discussed and along with the analysis of the issues, adequate options will be adopted to resolve those issues to attain the organizational objectives. Discussion on the quality management techniques will also be performed under this report (refer 3). Challenges faced by Dominos The basic issue was the late delivery. Domino's provides its customers the service of delivering pizzas and other stuff from their menu to the customers' doorstep without any additional cost. For performing this function, the certain duration of time is promised to the customers to get the order delivered. But organizational delivery people were failing to perform the same in the particular period of time due to high traffic in the city areas (He, Zha Li, 2013). Another big issue which was Domino's was facing is improper control over the management of inventory and other things. It was leading to the issues like the waste generation. As they are dealing with the perishable type of goods hence; adequate utensils and techniques are used to preserve them for longer usage. Due to lack of management control, an organization was struggling with the decreasing profit, complaints from customers regarding the quality of products, etc. Selection of techniques First technique implemented in the workplace of the Domino's surveys and this is the best and most effective technique for increasing the productivity and efficiency of the organization. The major reason behind an adaptation of survey technique is to determine the precise challenges faced by the employees and the customers (Mitra, 2016). This will help the organizational management to understand the customers and employees requirements and adequate set of methods could be implemented in the organization in order to achieve the desired goals and objectives of the organization. Randomly customers were asked to share their views in relevance with the services and products offered to them. Apart from this, organizational employees were also asked to share their reviews in order to improve the functionalities of the organization (refer 2). Plan-do-act-check refers to the controlling system. Under this, immediate actions are taken in order to gain the immediate results. Apart from this, plan-do-act-check also helps the organization to reduce the deviations faced by them in recent times (Dale, 2015). As Dominos is known for their quality and the commitment delivery hence; it is the duty of the management of the Dominos to maintain the goodwill of the brand through delivering adequate goods and services to the customers. The organization is struggling with various issues such as decreasing quality of the products, lack of managerial control over the various activities of the organization. Hence, these techniques are adopted and implemented in the workplace of Dominos in order to regain their market image (refer 1). Tools of quality management Above chart defines the survey process used for improving quality of the products and services. This process will be conducted within the organization as well as outside the organization in order to increase the efficiency of the organization. The first stage of this process addresses the issues faced by the organization. After analysis of the issues, customers and employees are asked to share their views in order to match with their executions. One of the most effective and efficient resolutions will be implemented within the workplace for the attainment of desired goals amongst the various views obtained from customers (Nadeem, et. al., 2013). The best alternative for conduction of survey process is the questionnaire. It includes all those questions through an organization is struggling and there is a scope for improving (refer 2). The aforesaid figure shows the process of a plan-do-act-check model which was originally invented by an American engineer, Dr. W. Edwards Deming. This process has been evaluated in four stages i.e. Plan: An appropriate plan is identified and evaluated as per the organizational structure of the Domino's. After identification process, adequate steps will be taken to assume the results through implementation so that adequate plan could be selected (Willemink, et. al., 2013). Do: Plan selected in the above process is being implemented in order to increase the efficiency of the organization. Alternatively, it could also be known as the execution process. Check: Under this phase, previous plans of the organization are checked with the newly adopted plans to analyze the issues as well as to gain the adequate results. The efficiency of this step could be analyzed through evaluating the chances under which organization could match up with the targets set up by the upper-level management (refer 1). Act: Under this stage of this process to rectify the issues faced by the organization, plans selected are implemented. After execution of the plans, adequate methods are also adopted which could provide managerial control over the functionalities of the Dominos (Bishop, Fody Schoeff, 2013). Implementation of techniques Being the manager of the Domino's company, I analyzed the two techniques for increasing the efficiency of the organization and to overcome the challenging situations facing the organization. Following is the process discussed for the implementation of the tools: Survey: In order to regain the efficiency of the organization and to overcome the issues of the faced by the organization, survey technique is adopted. In this technique, customers could share their views for improving the delivery services through providing advanced vehicles and updated tools through which delivery boy could easily get the directions for the customers address. On the other hand, employees could also share their experiences in which they feel struggled. After analysis of all these things, an adequate technique will be adopted to maintain the brand value of the organization in the Australia (Goetsch Davis, 2014). Plan-do-act-check: It was the duty of the manager to gather the information in relevance with the challenges which were reducing the efficiency of the organization. Subsequently, an action plan will be implemented to reduce those implications and the challenges. It was analyzed that after implementing these two tools for improving the effectiveness of the organization, Dominos efficiency has been increased and along with the increasing efficiency, desired goals are also achieved by the organization across the Australia (Taylor, et. al., 2013). Conclusion It was observed from the report that plan-do-act-check and the survey techniques were so effective in reducing the impacts of the challenges faced by the organization as well as the organizations workplace becomes capable enough to gain the desired goals. Additionally, Domino's was also able to control over its inventories and meeting the consumers' expectations. References Bishop, M.L., Fody, E.P. Political Skills in Control Critical Information †MyAssignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about the Political Skills in Control Critical Information. Answer: Introduction: Power implies the ability to influence or control the actions and behaviours of others. The word authority is normally used for power seen as valid by the social structure. If I become a team leader in my workplace, I would be given several responsibilities which range may from exciting to banal. However, one responsibility which is not explicitly mentioned in any employment agreement is to use this power of position in the workplace. However, being in that position will certainly make me use my power sometimes to motivate and encourage my people, and at times to instil fear in them too. I believe in mostly using my power to encourage productivity among my team members. I will reward great performances, and this is one of the ways in which I will obtain compliance. However, my usage of power will not be limited to just this aspect. There would be times, when there will be chaotic situations in the workplace, employee dissent specifically, where the staff would be unreasonably demandi ng. In such cases, I will use coercive power, i.e. threats of punishment and even give actual punishments. At times this becomes necessary to obtain compliance with the rules and policies of the company. If an employee is conducting some unethical work in the workplace, I will punish him so that he never repeats the same thing and to ensure that this acts as an example for others to follow. Conversely, I will use my expert power when some management decisions are to be taken and I will use my knowledge and expertise to obtain consent to my proposed solutions. Organizational Politics This refers to the deliberate acts of influence for protecting or enhancing the self-interest of groups or individuals which are not aligned with endorsed by those of the company. Here the emphasis is on self-interest. If I get a leadership position in my company I need to recognize political reality in the workplace and continuously develop my political skills. Moreover, if I am not politically smart I run the risk of being fired or demoted or even slipping off my planner career path, unavoidably resulting in real disruptions in organizational performance and personnel charts. I will use my political skills to build networks and cultivate interpersonal relations with relevant parties. I will strive to astutely manage up by communicating with my seniors and keeping the higher-management informed. However, I will not let this double-edged sword hit me because I will also invest sufficient energy and time in cultivating and leading my team. Thus, I would build great relations with my d irect reports and peers, plus with the higher-ups too. Moreover, I will use my political skills very carefully. I will think about the presentation and timing of what I need to say. I will build my working rapports and friendships by gaining support, negotiation, supporting their ideas on public forums and meetings, throwing parties and inviting eminent people of the company and managing conflict. I am well aware of when to call on others and am also ready to reciprocate. I will also use my political skills to control critical information as well as the lines of communication.

An Ordinary Man Essay Example

An Ordinary Man Essay Rusesabagina writes that â€Å"a false view of history is a toxin in the bloodstream. † How have you experienced this is your own life? Is there such a thing as a completely true view of history? It seems as though wherever there is a disagreement between two people, each of them always has a different story. Given this, two friends of mine fought over a bet they had made. One said the bet was for $20 while the other disagreed that they had never shaken hands to declare it. This is a prime example of what Rusesabagina is describing. No matter what situation one is in, there will always be differing opinions over what took place simply because people are often biased in their views of the past, seeing only how it affected him or her. Thus, I do not believe in such a thing as a true view of history. 2. The culture of hate enabled Hutu murderers to think of themselves as victims because â€Å"the person whose throat you do not cut will be the one who cuts yours. † Where do you think that sentiment arises from? How do you think it can be counteracted? The sentiment of â€Å"the person whose throat you do not cut will be the one who cuts yours† is one that is taught early on. Hutu students were taught in class that they were insignificant to Tutsi children, causing them to feel inferior. Years later, when the Hutu students grew to become adults, Radio-Television Libre des Mille Collines (RTLM) became very popular. RTLM transgressed from a typical radio show to a politically racist show bringing back many of the same emotions from grade school to the Hutu people. This could have been counteracted had the government discontinued the show after its first few discriminating remarks. . Rusesabagina describes how he would listen to absurdly racist radio debates. Though he loathed the opinions expressed, he found the shows fascinating. Why do you think people are drawn to media sources that they disapprove of? Media will always be attractive to society. Though we may despise it, we still read Star magazine, watch Saturday Night Liv e, and listen to music with disturbing lyrics. We read, watch, and listen to opinions we disagree with daily. If we did not, we would have nothing to say when our peers discussed last night’s TV show or the new song on the radio. To further prove this theory, I read an interview with Rusesabasgina and he states, â€Å"You have to know what people are saying in order to argue against their points of view. â€Å" 4. When you see a man like Rusesabagina (or Oskar Schindler in the film Schindler’s List) save lives by paying bribes to government agents, does it change how you look at the role graft plays in society? This is not just a â€Å"yes† or â€Å"no† answer. Explain your answer. No, graft will always be in a government. Whether it is a governor being tried for adultery or a president being impeached, graft is a role in every government. How does Rusesabagina use the â€Å"Rwandan No† as a way to critique first his own culture and then the international community? The â€Å"Rwandan No† has become a universal term. In the autobiography, An Ordinary Man, Rusesabagina speaks of his country, Rwanda, as a peaceful place. He mentions that Rwandans are too polite to say no. Instead of simply declining, Rwandans make up excuses until the inquiring person gives up asking or gets the hint. Throughout the novel, Rusesabagina shows many instances where the â€Å"Rwandan no† gradually transgressed from polite to scornful as it became used internationally. In many cases, the obscure declination was used in situations of dire need by both the United Nations and the United States towards Rwanda. 6. Given Rusesabagina’s experiences, what do you think the future holds for Rwanda? I am not quite sure what the future holds for the country of Rwanda. From the looks of the government, it is still run quite the same as before. There isn’t much of a democracy with one candidate winning 95% of votes, however, I believe that the country truly cares about its history and in an attempt of consolidation, will not let another event happen to repeat the genocide of 1994. 7. What different choices do you think you would have made if you had been in Rusesabagina’s position? I do not believe I would have handled the situation as successfully as Rusesabagina did. I understand he acted under pressure, but knowing myself, I would have not been able to deliver myself as eloquently as he did in any of his situations. 8. What effect do Rusesabagina’s accounts of the actions of the United Nations and the United States have on your impression of either? Rusesabagina’s accounts have left me to believe that the United Nations could have easily stopped the progression of the genocide in the beginning. If they had stayed in Rwanda to portray the slightest bit of protection to the people, I believe the Hutu murderers would be have been threatened enough to back off for the time being. Also, Rusesabagina’s account of asking the White House for help at the last minute and recalling how each person responded with an obscure eclination gravely upsets me. Our country was hypocritical in its acts of speaking of protection, yet when the time came, our nation’s leader avoided it. There was no justice between the United Nations and United States towards Rwanda. 9. Do the horrors described in the book make you look at Africa differently? Explain your answer. This book has caused me to look at Africa differently. Before, I never heard much about Africa or its struggles. Now, I have opened myself up to learning about Darfur and the genocide that has been taking place roughly since 2003. Rusesabagina’s autobiography has opened my eyes to my own government, as well. I catch myself watching the news more frequently and reading up on archives in my spare time. This book has discreetly made a difference in who I am now. 10. Rusesabagina refers to himself as an ordinary man. Were his deeds those of an ordinary man or of a hero? Explain your answer. I have mixed feelings towards this. Rusesabagina deserves the title of a â€Å"hero† in which he saved many lives in those few months. He acted in a way I could never see myself acting. He befriended his enemy and compromised what was sought after for a bottle of wine. Rusesabagina acted the way he felt he should, which thus makes him an ordinary man. We, as humans, are all created with instincts for survival. Therefore, we use them in whatever way possible to keep us alive. It is my belief that Rusesabagina took advantage of both his instincts and his knowledge to keep him, his family, and his guests alive. It is my opinion that he is both a hero for managing to save so many lives and as an ordinary man for using his instincts and knowledge to survive.

Anglo Saxons essays

Anglo Saxons essays According to the Venerable Bede, the first significant body of Germanic settlers in England had been hired as mercenaries by the British Prince Vortigern during fifth-century struggles for power among British Celts that broke out when Roman colonial troops were withdrawn. After a falling-out with their employer, these Germanic warriors seized British territory in the south of England for themselves and brought their families over the English Channel to settle it. Archaeological evidence also reveals a gradual infiltration of Germanic peoples into England along the rivers of east central England, then a low-lying bayou country that would have been impossible to police. Bede tells us that the Germanic settlers came from Anglian and Saxon regions of continental Europe, within the modern territories of Holland, Southern Denmark, and Western Germany. The settlers brought with them, in their heads, an extensive body of lore encoded in alliterative verse, including versified laws as well as historical and legendary narratives. Some of the settlers could use a runic alphabet to carve brief messages, mostly on wooden sticks, but writing was not used for Old English historical or literary material until the conversion to Christianity, when manuscript technology entered from Rome and Ireland. Old English literature includes a number of works based on native Germanic legend, including the remarkable Beowulf, a complete epic peopled by half-Christian Germanic warriors. The interweaving of Christian elements with native Germanic materials in this work is so thoughtful and intricate that the two cultural strands are very difficult to unravel. Other epic poems in native style use imported Christian narratives. Two of the best, by a poet named Cynewulf, have heroic female protagonists. As in Celtic saga, representation of gender roles in Old English narrative may seem quite strange to a modern reader. In Beowulf, for example, Queen Wealhth...
